Research-Based Products by Tobii

Research has always been a vital part of Tobii. The company stems from a research project at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. By chance, one of Tobii’s founders discovered how his eye movements could be tracked by a camera and the concept of the Tobii eye tracker was born.

Research is the cornerstone of our success

Ever since, research has been paramount at Tobii. Our ambition is to find genuine applications for our technology, to continuously improve the core technology and to lower costs. At Tobii we believe that eye control in standard PCs at an affordable cost is soon attainable.

Research is conducted on many levels today.  Tobii has strong relationships with R&D partners active in every segment ranging from components to industrial design and a numerous R&D department

Academic research, a part of product development

Over the years Tobii has nursed close relationships with the universities. Many graduates preparing their thesis have helped evaluate and test new ideas in exchange for access to our expertise and advice in an environment where they can test their own thesis. Awards have also been donated to university research projects. Read about the Swedish Grand Award of Design and the Design Research Lab.

Tobii collaborates with scientists to develop entirely new products. One such example is the development of Tobii Sono Lexis in collaboration with Dr. Gregor Renner, Professor for Special Education and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Last but not least, the Tobii Eye Trackers are used in many fields of academic research.
