Jorunn Sjothun

"With eye-control she can express herself socially and creatively"

Jorunn SjothunJorunn Sjothun lives with the physical constraints of Cerebral Palsy. The eye-controlled communication device – MyTobii P10 – enables her to communicate directly with others. She doesn’t need to use her caregivers as a middleman and communication is much faster than when using other assistive technologies.

Eye control allows anyone to understand

Jorunn is a social person who enjoys going to the movies or pub, spending time with her friends, writing and traveling. Several of her poems have been published and her travels have taken her as far as Brazil. She is a true inspiration for all who want to overcome limitations imposed on those with physical handicaps.

It’s difficult for Jorunn to communicate with people other than her caregivers without her MyTobii P10. She communicates easily with her assistants via eye reading, but it is very difficult for those without training to read her gaze and comprehend what she means.

MyTobii makes writing quicker

With the aid of a dedicated communication device, people outside her inner circle can finally understand what she wants to say—either via text typed on her screen or voice synthesis. Communication with others than those in her immediate sphere goes much quicker with the help of MyTobii.

"It goes a lot faster now compared with before when I had to control the communication device using a head mouse. I can also do previously unthinkable things like writing emails and text messages, which makes it easier to stay in contact with family and friends. I do a lot of text messaging to communicate with others,” explains Jorunn.

”Being able to write and send messages without anyone’s help has meant a huge improvement for me.”
