Jorunn and her MyTobii P10

With eye control, Jorunn can express herself socially and creatively.

Jorunn Sjothun doesn’t allow the physical constraints of Cerebral Palsy to stop her leading a full life. Using her eye-controlled communication device – the MyTobii P10 – she can communicate directly with others via text and voice synthesis, so she doesn’t need to use her caregivers as middlemen. Jorunn finds communication with the My Tobii P10 much faster than when using other assistive technologies.

Eye control allows anyone to understand

Jorunn is a social person who enjoys going to the movies or the pub, spending time with her friends, writing and traveling. Several of her poems have been published, and her travels have taken her as far as Brazil. She is a true inspiration for all who want to overcome limitations imposed on those with physical handicaps.

She communicates easily with her assistants via eye reading, but it is very difficult for those without training to read her gaze and understand what she means. Her MyTobii P10 makes it easier for people to understand what she’s saying.

MyTobii makes writing quicker

With the aid of a dedicated communication device, people outside her inner circle can understand what she wants to say, either via text typed on her screen or voice synthesis. The MyTobii makes communication with those outside her inner circle go much quicker.

"It goes a lot faster now compared with before when I had to control the communication device using a head mouse. I can also do previously unthinkable things like writing emails and text messages, which makes it easier to stay in contact with family and friends. I do a lot of text messaging to communicate with others,” explains Jorunn.

”Being able to write and send messages without anyone’s help has meant a huge improvement for me.”
