Tobii EyeAsteroids is designed as a classic arcade game, but it has a unique eye control feature. This means that you use your gaze to aim and shoot. The goal of the game is to survive and amass as many points as possible by destroying asteroids while staying alive on Earth as long as possible.
Eye control features
Earth is the player’s avatar in the game. To defend itself from oncoming asteroids, Earth can fire laser beams wherever the player is looking and pick up items by moving over them. If Earth collides with an asteroid, it takes damage. If it sustains enough damage, Earth is destroyed and the game ends.
Asteroids are the game’s main antagonists and are governed solely by initial inertia and gravitational forces. Gravitation affects all entities in the scene, pulling them toward each other.
Power-ups are the player’s only allies and grant different bonuses depending on their type:
Bombs can either be picked up for a large point bonus, or they can be destroyed to clear the screen of asteroids. Beware that destroying a bomb yields the player no extra points and destroys other power-ups floating about.- Batteries can be picked up for a short burst of energy, doubling the output effect of Earth’s laser.
- Health baubles can be picked up to regenerate lost health.
- Shields grant Earth invulnerability to all attacks for a limited time.
Your progress is measured in levels and the game gets harder as time passes. At higher levels, you need to move your body to avoid life-threatening asteroids that eventually start to shoot back at you.
