Headquartered in Stockholm Tobii covers a global market with offices in USA, Germany, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China.

Do you want to do your industrial PhD in acoustic signal processing and speech synthesis with stellar researchers all over Europe? This is your opportunity!

We are looking for an “early stage researcher” (ESR) to work in an exciting project funded by the EU. Together with 13 other ESR, and many senior experts coming from 8 core partners, the ENRICH network will provide excellent training and networking opportunities in the field of speech enrichment and speech generation.

As our candidate you will be hosted by Tobii AB in Stockholm and work on improving the quality of our speech generating devices. At the same time, you will receive extensive training with a unique blend of academic and industrial skills, and will be put on the road towards your PhD.

The position is full-time with a fixed three year duration. You will be working in the "Horizon 2020 Marie Curie European Training Network" (H2020 MSCA ETN) ENRICH on speech synthesis and signal processing, to research how to make generated speech in assistive products more comprehensible.

On a day to day basis you will

  • Work with and be trained by world-class researchers from various European universities in the field of speech processing and synthesis.
  • Be hosted at world-leader in eye tracking and assistive technology; have your research result applied to potentially tens-of-thousands of people.
  • Receive industry-leading R&D experience from us
  • Have your position, training and travel fully paid for

We are looking for someone who

  • Has a very good Master’s (or equivalent) degree in computer science or (acoustic) signal processing
  • Has an outstanding signal processing / speech synthesis background
  • Has initial research and publication experience
  • Is very good with C# / C or Python
  • Has good statistical abilities
  • Is willing to travel within the EU and collaborate with partner Universities in UK, Spain, Netherlands and others

We also believe that you are motivated to pursue a PhD later on.

Important: Since this is an EU ETN position highlighting intra-European mobility, at time of hiring you must have resided outside of Sweden for more than 24 months during the past 36 months! Also, at the date of recruitment you must be within the first 4 years of your research carreer and must not have a doctoral degree. The application deadline is September 30, 2016. The actual recruitment process will be performed in two stages. In Stage 1 you will interview with us in October 2016. If things look good you will then be invited to join Stage 2, the network’s kick-off event near London from November 14 to November 16, 2016, and meet the network partners of the project (expenses covered). Your actual start of work is expected to happen January 2017.

This project is to be funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) under project No 675324.
