- Human computer interaction research

METU Human-Computer Interaction Research Group (METU-HCI) aims to research the nature of interaction between people and computers in order to enhance the design and utilization of more usable and humanly acceptable systems. The research group aims to disseminate the importance of theoretical and practical issues of human-computer interaction in Turkey.

The group, consisting members from diverse academic backgrounds such as instructional technology, education, cognitive science and computer science, is conducting behavioral and eye-tracking studies on cognitive, social, and pedagogical issues of human computer interaction. More information about the research group can be found at http://hci.metu.edu.tr

METU Human-Computer Interaction Research and Application Laboratory was established in 2005 by Dr. Kursat Cagiltay under a joint project with METU Computer Center. The laboratory is a medium established to design, utilize, and evaluate interactive technologies such as web and other computer software interfaces. The lab consists of a control room and an experiment room with a Tobii EyeTracker purchased at the end of 2005. More information about the laboratory can be found at http://hci.cc.metu.edu.tr

Research, Education and Service
Projects include a wide range of applications from eye tracking based dynamic real-time evaluation of cognitive activities in computer supported learning environments to eye-tracking analyses of advertisements. Publications have appeared at IEEE International Conferences on Advanced Learning Technologies, San Diego International Systems Conference, International Informatics Congress, National Academic Computing Conferences, National Computing Symposiums and Ergonomics Conferences as well as in popular magazines.

The laboratory, having been established mainly for academic research purposes, may also be available for expert consultation for companies.

Collaboration
METU HCI Research Group welcomes collaborations from research groups on eye tracking applications. The Group currently collaborates with Hamburg University, Department of Computer Science.
