Installation guide: Tobii Attention Panel Webcam

1. Download Tobii Extension

1.1 Download the Tobii Attention Panel Chrome extension from Chrome Web Store

  • Download the extension.
  • Click the blue button Add to Chrome and then Add extension. See the first and second image below. A new page should open.
  • Pin the extension to your browser by clicking the pin and making it blue. See the third image below.

1.2 Enter your email

  • When clicking the extension icon:  , you will see a popup just like the image below.
  • Enter your email address in the empty box and then click SUBMIT to register for your rewards. Please use the same one as you did when registering in the survey.

2. Install Web Host

  • Click the orange link Tobii Web Host Bundle in the popup. See the image above.
  • It will automatically start a download of a file to your computer. You will see the file in the lower left of your Chrome window. See image below.
  • Click the file to open it. You will also be able to find it in your Downloads folder.
  • You will then receive a prompt from Windows telling you to wait while Tobii Web Host is configured. See image below.
  • During this process, Windows will ask you to allow the application to make changes on your device. Click Yes. See image below.

  • Close the Chrome window and open a new one when the installation is finished.

  • You are now finished with the installation of the Chrome extension and will see the following popup when you click the icon in your browser.

This means you have now completed the first out of three parts of the installation. Please proceed to the next page to install the webcam eye tracking software.

3. Install eye tracking software

3.1 Download Tobii Webcam Eye Tracking installer

The download will start automatically when you click the link. You will see the file being downloaded in the lower left corner of your Chrome browser window:

You will also find the file in the folder Downloads folder on your computer:

Click the file to open it and wait while Windows configures it:

Depending on your computer's settings, you may receive the following warning: “The app you're trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app”, as shown below. (If you don't see the warning, go to step 2.2).

The warning means that you may have set your Windows system to only accept applications that come from the Microsoft Store. You can change these settings by clicking Change my app recommendation settings as above, and then follow the steps below.

  • In Apps & features, choose where you want to download apps from in the drop-down menu:

  • Change from “The Microsoft Store only” to one of the other options, for example “Anywhere, but warn me […]” as shown above.
  • Open the file Tobii Webcam Eye Tracking again and click Install anyway. See image below.

(This warning may appear again when installing Tobii Eye Tracker Manager in step 2.2, then click Install anyway again).

3.2 Download Tobii Eye Tracker Manager

  • The download will start automatically when you click the link. You will see the file being downloaded in the lower left corner of your browser window. See image below.
  • You can also find the file in the folder Downloads.

  • Click on the file and wait while the program installs. See image below.

If the warning ”Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features of this app” is shown, select the network you would like to allow the app to communicate on and click Allow access. See image below.

You have now completed 2 out of 3 parts. Please proceed to the next page to set up your display and calibrate.

4. Set up your display and calibrate

4.1 Create a new display setup in Tobii Eye Tracker Manager.

  • Choose eye tracker by clicking SENSEATEX in the upper left corner.

  • Click the three dots and New.

4.2 Adjust the screen size

  • Adjust the blue dotted line to align with the position of your webcam.
  • Adjust the blue box so that it has the size of a card (either bank, ID or membership card) by dragging the blue slider. This step is important, make sure to find a card to verify.

4.3 Save your display setup

  • Create a name for your display setup and click Save.

4.4 Calibrate

  • The final step is to calibrate the eye tracker to give you the most accurate gaze algorithm based on your unique eye characteristics.
  • Click CALIBRATE and complete the calibration by watching dots until they explode.
  • Make sure to have good lighting in the room since it gives the most accurate results.

  • Once the calibration is finished, click Use Calibration.

5. Test that everything works

You have now completed all three parts of the installation. If the Tobii icon in the upper right corner of your browser window is green, like the example image, the installation process was successful.

How to interpret the colors of the icon:

or = everything is working!

= there is an error that requires your attention, please click the icon.

= it is a warning that requires your attention, please click the icon. This may mean that the eye tracker is not connected, cannot be found, has lost connection, or that there is something wrong with it. It may also mean that the web host requires updating.

= the Chrome extension is loading. Continue using your computer as usual until it changes. 
= it has been more than 10 seconds since the last eye movement was detected.
