Laminar Research and Tobii Gaming have partnered to introduce native support for Tobii Eye Tracker 5 in X-Plane 12. Starting Friday, December 19th, users updating to X-Plane 12.4.0, the “C-Check Update”, can experience Tobii’s head and eye tracking technology directly within the simulator, enabling pilots to intuitively change their view using natural head and eye movements for a truly immersive cockpit experience.

With native Tobii integration, Tobii Eye Tracker 5 works out of the box at peak performance levels.

No more Tobii Game Hub required

X-Plane has long been popular among Tobii Gaming fans, previously requiring Tobii Game Hub for compatibility. Now, under the hood, users benefit from version 9 of
Tobii Game Integration API (TGI), a set of developer tools that integrate head and eye tracking directly into games, resulting in faster and more accurate performance. This update means Tobii Game Hub is no longer required for X-Plane 12, streamlining the experience for users.

Lightning-fast camera control

Thanks to lightning-fast signal optimization, Tobii integration in X-Plane 12 offers the most responsive camera control using head and eye tracking, with no need for extra software or workarounds. The experience is further enhanced by Camera Boost, a patented feature that uses eye tracking data to determine how much the camera should turn as you move your head and shift your gaze. Camera Boost makes camera movements smoother and more natural based on where you look. For example, if you turn your head and look toward the edge of the screen, the camera will turn more, responding precisely to your natural instincts.

Why Camera Boost matters

This technology brings practical benefits for pilots. For instance, when landing an aircraft, you can quickly glance at instruments or out the window without manually adjusting the camera, making flight operations more seamless and realistic. Whether checking an overhead panel in an airliner or looking at the runway at a 45-degree angle over your shoulder before a base turn, Tobii Eye Tracker 5 with Camera Boost empowers you to intuitively control your view in X-Plane 12.

You can buy X-Plane at x-plane.com, where a free demo is also available.
