A guiding principle of Dr. Sheila Krogh-Jespersen’s work is that precise measurement is key to understanding early growth in developmental trajectories, as well as to distinguish between normative and atypical development trajectories. In this presentation, she presents evidence showing the development of social competence as revealed from the combination of eye tracking and behavioral studies.

Sheila Krogh-Jespersen is a developmental psychologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and B.A. from Rutgers University. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Medical Social Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. She studies the early emergence of social competence skills, with a specific focus on intentional understanding during the first years of life. The central theme of her research has been the examination of infants’ ability to recruit social information from others as a substrate of their social competence.
