Tobii is a proud sponsor of the European Summer School on Eye Movements (ESSEM) 2024, taking place in Athens, Greece. Join our presentation on Wednesday, September 11th, to learn more about blink detection using eye openness signals.

Come by our table throughout the event to see and try out our solutions in action. We look forward to networking and hearing more about your fascinating work, research breakthroughs and current struggles! Come by our table to explore how eye tracking could add value to your research.

Speaker session

Blink detection using eye openness signals

Description: Blinks, characterized by the closing and opening of the eyelids, offer valuable insights into human cognition, behavior, and physiological functions. In video-based eye trackers, blinks are typically estimated indirectly from the pupil size signal, where invalid samples are classified as blinks. This talk will introduce a blink detection method that utilizes an eye openness signal, which directly measures the distance between the upper and lower eyelids. We will explore the advantages of using the eye openness signal for blink detection and compare this method with blink detection based on pupil size.

Presenter: Ieva Miseviciute, Ph.D., Science writer, Tobii

Time:  Wednesday September 11th, 14:00 - 14:45

Location: The University Auditorium of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece
