Wearable eye trackers
How does the analysis work? Will it give me heat maps?
To generate heat maps from a Tobii Pro Glasses' recording, you first need to map the gaze data from the recording to a snapshot taken of the part of the recording that you wish to map. Then you will generate a dynamic heat map on this static image using "Assisted Mapping".
How long will it take to create the heat maps?
It depends on the length of the video to be mapped. If you use our supportive function "Assisted Mapping" then it usually takes one minute to map 1 minute of recording. The mapping also requires a high-quality snapshot on which to map the data.
What is the appropriate sample size for my project?
It depends whether you are running a qualitative or a quantitative study. We recommend a sample of 6-10 participants for a qualitative study and a sample of 20-30 participants for a quantitative study. If the purpose is to publish the results, a sample size calculation is required to make sure the design and sample size has a chance to provide significant results.
In our Tobii Getting Started Program you will get personal (online) training tailored for your specific use case, which will guide you to an efficient and cost-effective study set-up.
Which sampling rate of the Tobii Pro Glasses shall I choose for my use case?
The ideal sampling frequency depends on your research question. For studies focusing on fixations (where participants look for a certain duration), 50Hz can be sufficient. However, if you want to capture faster eye movements (like saccades or smooth pursuit), a sampling rate of 100Hz is recommended.
How long does the battery last?
With a full battery you can make recordings of up to 90 minutes. There are three batteries in the set. If you need to make recordings longer than 90 minutes, please consider using an additional power bank.
My participants will be wearing regular glasses. Can they still use Tobii Pro Glasses?
No, your participants cannot use their own glasses underneath the Tobii Pro Glasses 3. Instead, we offer a range of corrective lenses , which can be attached to the Tobii Pro Glasses 3.
Can I disable the audio on the glasses recordings?
Yes, you can do it before you start recording using the Tobii Pro Glasses 3 Controller Software. Note that once the audio has been turned off, the audio for the recording cannot be recovered later.
